For those who need rentals; please consider renting from a shop in Winnipeg. It may save you some money as on-hill rentals tend to be quite pricy. You can also assure that you have a good set of skis/board and aren’t stuck with equipment that doesn’t fit quite right. For info on Fernie’s Rental shop check out: www.skifernie.com/rentals-and-lessons/index.aspx

You are responsible for your own insurance. Luckily, since we are in Canada, you may or may not choose to buy health insurance. Many students are on the Students' Association health plan, some on their own plan. Buyer beware, you are participating in a potentially hazardous activity which could cause severe injury and even death and as such you may wish to buy additional health insurance for this trip (you can never have too much insurance and doesn't cost that much). Actually, when traveling anywhere you may wish to buy additional insurance.
If you are not sure if you are on the SA health plan call Christa Gobin at 632-2503.
Remember if you get hurt on the trip and have to come home early (i.e. flight home) you will be paying out of your own pocket unless you buy additional health insurance.
Cancellation Insurance
Downhill Riders is offering cancellation insurance for $25. This insurance covers you in case of medical or family emergency. Please read this form carefully. The Students' Association does not refund money once it is paid. Once you sign up with your deposit, that money is given to Downhill Riders. The SA does not charge a service fee to the students for setting up this trip and will lose money if we refund money simply because a student changes his/her mind about going. Please be sure that you will have the appropriate money available to you by the deadline date.
This trip will be conducted by Downhill Riders and have provided us with the following information... Please be aware that drinking in a moving vehicle is illegal in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and BC. The bus drivers in years previous have not had a problem with our group drinking but please know the risk that you chose to take. Also, please consider the following:
- Do not bring anything in glass.
o buy cans
o liquor - put in a plastic container (pop bottle, water bottle, etc.)
- Pace yourself - this is a long trip. Please drink responsibly. Nobody will be happy sitting in a bus that smells of vomit for a long 15-hour bus ride.
- Consider bringing non-alcoholic drinks on the bus. Nothing is worse than getting to the mountain and not being in any condition to enjoy skiing/riding. Once at the mountain you will be more likely to drink anyways. You don't need to ruin your entire trip on the first night. Get some water and food in your body and rest if you can on the bus… you'’ll need it. You will not be physically used to mountain conditions.
When packing your luggage for the trip, remember the following items:
1. Main Luggage - clothes, toiletries, shoes, etc. (don’t forget bathing suit for hot tubbing!)
2. Skis / Snowboard and Gear
3. Small Bus Bag - food, beverages, music player.
The condos do come with kitchens so consider buying groceries once in Fernie to save some $.
